Single Beam Benthic Surveys
Aquasphere Surveyors have two systems available to create accurate bottom profiling data sets. Our Kongsberg 1007 altimeter works at 675 kHz with a 2.5 degree beam to a depth of 100 meters. This system has a dimensional profile that also allows us to work in shallow fast flowing river water ways and has a fixed direction downward looking beam.
Our other system is Kongsberg 1071 scanning sonar with dual heads (profiling and imaging). The profiling head also operates at 675 kHz and has a beam width of 1.8 degrees to depths of 100 meters. This system has a built in pitch roll and heading sensor which compensates for any vessel movement providing an accurate bottom profile. While setup in profile mode it can be configured in a fixed downward looking direction or be programmed to operate in sweep mode giving more profiling points for each swath. Post processing/filtering of the data sets from both these instruments is done with Kongsberg's Bathy XYZ software in which tidal elevation files are created and integrated with the processed data to provide true bottom elevation when our DGPS is used. RTK or land based laser GPS instrumentation which provides accurate satellite based elevations for specific work sites can also be integrated with our Kongsberg MS1000 operator software.
